Our Virtual Museum

Genesee River

The Genesee River section of our Virtual Museum is focused on the history and stories about the river within a one-mile radius of the Lower Falls Gorge.

This is the first time that specific information about the Genesee River has been assembled in one place. Please enjoy our collections and we encourage you to share new information that would add to these histories.

The Birth of a Bridge: The Story of the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Rochester, NY

The Veterans Memorial Bridge across the Genesee River is the longest bridge (981 feet) in New York State. It is approximately one mile north of the Lower Falls. Engineers documented each stage of the more than three-year construction and were able to complete the project by the scheduled deadline in December 1931.
